Absolutely not! I have a boss who has a lot of input in the type of work I do, but I also work in a big team of scientists (around 30 other people) and we will all discuss our experiments and work with each other. From these discussions, lots of other experiments will be suggested that I could do with my work. I have the final say with what I do as it is my work, but it is really useful to talk to other people about the work you are doing because sometimes you won’t see something that is obvious, or somebody looking at the same problem as you could see it from a different point of view that changes the whole way you think about it! Teamwork is a very important part of science, and life!
