      Dear naturalselection13,

For me, personally, I think that the most important scientific discovery was that the earth is not the centre of the universe. Yayyy! But there are equally valid arguments for the invention of the wheel, or the discovery of fire. Without either of those, you and I would probably not be alive.

      Nice question! Thank you!
      Anita.

When Isaac Newton discovered gravity and the laws of motion of how object move. That along with some other stuff, seemed to kick start the modern era of thinking about the world scientifically, rather than religiously.

      Hey naturalselection13 great question

A very difficult one to answer, but from the perspective of a biologist, without Louis Pasteur’s experiments in the 1860s we might not know that diseases were caused by microorganisms. He also discovered that bacteria could be killed with heat – meaning doctors began to sterilize the instruments they used for surgery saving millions of lives. If that wasn’t enough, he is also famous for introducing vaccination to the world.

Penicillin (antibiotics)/ Alexander Fleming discovered it, and it has saved MILLIONS of lives! The best discovery ever in my opinion, without a doubt 🙂
