My top tip for revising for exams is to start really early. Make summaries of your lessons for each day, and, when you have a few more, make summaries of your summaries. This way, your lessons are kept fresh in your head, and you can build your new knowledge onto a firm understanding on what you have already learned.
Firstly your brain can only concentrate for a certain amount time so if the information isn’t going in, give yourself a break. It’s pointless carrying on!
Also, lots of people try and learn all the information before practicing a paper but answering a question is part of the learning.
So a the best way to revise is in bitesize chunks instead of craming just before the exam. Try it this way:
1) learn some information (read school notes)
2) understand that information (make notes in your own words and think how you would explain it to someone else for example?)
3) answer an exam question on that topic (your brain works harder if you don’t have the answer in front of you)
It’s not the perfect solution for everyone but try it and if it works then keep doing it.
The best way I always found to revise was by answering lots and lots of past paper questions. Then look at the answers, see what is different, and then try and answer some more!
I also used to make my notes shorter and shorter so eventually the whole topic was on one piece of paper.
The last important thing is to take plenty of breaks. And use it as an excuse to eat lots of chocolate. Chocolate definitely helps revision.
I used to find that writing things down with different coloured pens really helped me remember 🙂 I’m a visual learner- you should work out if you learn visually or with your ears! Then once you know that, you can apply the best learning method for you 🙂
Do you remember things best by seeing and reading them? Or do you remember them best by hearing about them? Have a think about this and then do what works best for you! Also, chewing gum or sweets used to help me learn better too!
