How in sync / agreement two people are by how well they are mirroring each other. Similarly if someone’s feet are pointing away from the other person or they are fidgeting then they are preparing to leave. If their arms are crossed they are likely defensive. Clenched fists denote anger. Slight nodding implies agreement. Touching their face / scratching their nose etc means they are uncomfortable, if they are actively covering their neck then they are probably fearful.

This is very open for interpretation and there is no definite rule regarding what body language mean, but in general terms these are the most common gestures and meanings.

While looking into how people might interact with devices, there were quite a few occasions when people did gesture and touch tasks completely automatically. When I asked them afterwards, some of them didn’t even remember doing them. I think from that it means that things we do with our hands like putting a nut on a screw or even touch typing can be completely automated with practice. This is potentially very useful when designing mobile phone interfaces of the future!
