• Question: Can anyone explain the evolution of insects that looks like leaves?

      Generally, species are thought to evolve to either eat more, be eaten less, or reproduce more. So for the insects you’re talking about, they would probably benefit by being mistaken for a leaf by their predators. That way, they would have a higher chance of surviving!
      I don’t know the way it happened exactly, but my guess is that every now and then one of the insects would be born with some kind of small mutation that would make it look more and more like a leaf. That insect would not be eaten by the predator, and so would have more time to make more offspring. Progressively, the population as a whole would start looking more and more like a leaf, because that’s what would allow them to survive!
