I think I would regret it almost straight away, and give it back. But I have diamonds of my own (that I bought – I didn’t steal them!) that I use in my experiments, so it is more likely that someone would steal one of mine :-O

The same thing as if you stole anything else! Diamonds are pretty expensive though so whoever you stole it from would put a lot of effort into tracking it down. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it.

I don’t think I would ever steal a Diamond. But like Simon, I use diamonds in my work as they are very hard materials and so I put crystals in between them and then squeeze the diamonds onto them – this means that we can investigate if we can change the way that something does its job just by putting it under pressure or maybe develop something which can act as a pressure sensor. Its just another way of torturing crystals!

I definitely wouldn’t be able to deal with the guilt!

You would need an enormous truck to steel Diamond…the building is vast and synchrotron light sources are not that easy to slip in your pocket :-p
