We are human because we evolved from primates to be humans! Humans are characterised by various things like the fact we walk on two legs, have opposable thumbs, use tools, form large social groups and communicate to each other. What makes each of us different from other humans is the genes we get from our parents, these have very small differences to other humans but make us all look different and make us who we are. The environment around us can influence how these genes are expressed and plays a role in who we are too.

…our parents….and their parents and so on. The evolutionary history of our species is tied to a complex construction that became society. We are a social species that have developed over thousands of years (as our current species) and with each adaptation for thought, communication and comprehension, our species has evolved to come to define what it is to be human.
