Doing something I find exciting and interesting while knowing that it’s applications could go on to help develop new drugs that could treat people all over the world. 😀

Knowing that what I find out might some time in the future make a difference to the world.
I also really love teaching people – I have to help teach undergraduate students sometimes and it’s a great feeling when they start off not understanding something and when you’ve explained how it works they go away having understood it. -

The most rewarding thing about my job is when I’ve taught a student how to solve a crystal structure. The look on the face of a person when they first see a three-dimensional picture of what they’ve made appearing in front of them (and they are the first person in the world ever to see it) is difficult to beat! And I know I’ve done a good job when they reach the point when they really feel like they understand what they are doing!
