A lightsaber is a fictional object from the star wars films. Diamonds can, however, be cut using a laser not dissimilar to a laser pointer but much more powerful. You couldn’t cut through a diamond with a laser pointer thankfully otherwise they would be quite dangerous!

Yes! A lightsaber is meant to be a blade of pure energy. With enough energy you can break any chemical bond – even the strong carbon-carbon bonds in diamond. Lynne rightly says that lasers are the closest we have to lightsabers!
