In about 5.4 billion years the sun will run out of fuel (hydrogen) and will start to get hotter and expand. It will get so hot that all the water on earth will evaporate through the atmosphere. Without water there will be no more life on earth so that’s when life will end on earth. Eventually the sun will expand so much that it will eat up the earth!

If we knew exactly how, we might be able to stop it! The sun is slowly expanding and becoming brighter, eventually it will collapse. Some scientists believe that the Earth will be destroyed in this process as it will be engulfed by the sun. However, some scientists believe that as the sun expands, it will lose mass and it’s gravitational tug over Earth will weaken, meaning the Earths will drift outwards and it will avoid being engulfed by the sun. Alternatively, the Earth might be destroyed by an asteroid before any of this happens.
