Current estimates are that the sun will burn for another 5.4 billion years before it runs out of hydrogen and becomes a Red Giant. The sun will continue to stick around as a red giant for another 120 million years, but it will start to grow and get hotter. All the water on earth will evaporate so we won’t survive this part of the sun’s lifecycle.

The sun is around 4-5 billion years old and will burn for up to another 7 billion years but we won’t be around to see it run out of fuel. The sun is burning brighter and brighter and in a few billion years it will be so hot that all the water on earth will boil and life on Earth will be non-existent. Cheery eh?
