• Question: How can I practice and get ready for being a Vet? I always try helping my cat when he has abscesses by dabbing gently with warm salty water, but is there any other ways? And I'm too young to volunteer and do work experience at a local vets :L

To become a vet you need to study hard and get lots of training. I wouldn’t advise practicing to be a vet on your pets because although you may have the best intentions, you haven’t had the necessary training yet and could accidentally hurt your cat. You could get prepare by reading about the anatomy of different animals, until you are old enough to get some work experience.

More information about becoming a vet, including what you need to study at school to get into university, can be found here. Good luck 🙂

If you really love animals and live near a zoo you might be able to have a day being a zookeeper – lots of zoos do this and it might a great birthday present to ask for! The best thing to do at the moment is just learn all you can about what is the best way to look after all sorts of animals. Like Daren said, keep working hard at school, make sure you get good marks in science, especially biology and get some work experience as soon as you’re old enough.
It’s probably a bit advanced for you at the moment, but if you want to look to the future about what you’ll need you can find out information here http://www.rcvs.org.uk/education/i-want-to-be-a-vet/
