I’d see if my friends or parents could help me and maybe look on the internet and see if it gave me any clues. Sometimes just talking to someone helps you to work around the problem even if they don’t know the answer! It’s important to make sure that you understand where the answer comes from though rather than just taking what someone else or the internet says.

Your parents or teacher would be a good place to start. Or you might be able to find more information in a book or on the internet, you can’t trust everything on the internet though so look for a reliable source. Talking to people and trying to explain a problem can often help you think about it a different way and come up with an answer. This applies to us scientists as well as you students.

My parents were useless at helping me with my science homework – as soon as I got to secondary school they decided that I knew too much more than them for them to be able to help me!
I usually found that my textbook had all the answers if I looked carefully enough. When I was in year 8 the internet was still very expensive and I was only allowed on it for a very small amount of time, so I tried not to rely on it. I think books are sometimes easier to understand, because they’re aimed at your level of understanding. Sites like wikipedia are sometimes so full of information that I don’t understand them!
