Probably not. As we get older the cells in your body start to die and your organs stop working. The only way you’d be able to live forever would to replace your organs. If you replace your brain, would you still be you?

This is unlikely. As we get older we are more likely to develop diseases like cancer and so even if we could find a way to stop aging, we would have other things to worry about.

Unfortunately aging is one of the things that we can’t stop and illnesses are often a consequence of things getting a bit old. For instance, our skin ages just because we spend time in the sun and when we get older that adds up to a long time! Illnesses quite often are just a consequence of some things in your body not quite working as they should do.

We as a species have not evolved such a trait….but a few species are effectively immortal! Take a look at the ‘immortal jellyfish’…. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_dohrnii
