  If you look at the PhD students in my department, the answer is definitely yes. Unfortunately it’s not the same for lecturers and professors – there’s an overwhelming majority of men. Nobody really knows why women don’t seem to want to go into academic research, but there are lots of schemes in place to encourage women to aim higher and I don’t think there’s anything that’s stopping them from trying – it’s just the women choose to do other things.
