• Question: Can you tell me more about the chemical engineering course you did at university?

      Yes, it was a 5-year long course that I did at an Engineering School in Lisbon. This was before the European undergraduate degrees were standardised to follow similar rules and length, so at the time there was no similar thing in the UK. In Portugal in the 90s most our undergraduate courses were 5 years-long.

      The first 3 years were mostly about typical engineering subjects, like Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanics, Lab and computational techniques. The last 2 were more specific to a branch I chose – Applied Chemistry – where I received training in coming up with my own project for a Chemical factory, and also spent much longer hours working in specific projects/subjects.
      Back then we did not have the module and credits system, passing all subjects was compulsory. This was bad in a sense, because it left me little choice, but was good because it made me discover subjects that I would perhaps not have dared trying and that I later found to have enjoyed.
