I was mostly in the top sets as even if I wasn’t the most naturally clever person in the class I think I make up for it in putting a lot of effort into learning. I always try and find interesting ways to remember facts. Some I can still remember from high school as they stick in your mind, especially if they are funny. Like I will always remember the order of the cell cycle ~(even though that doesn’t have anything to do with my research now)…. it is Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase… which shortens to I.P.M.A.T. I used to imagine the saying ‘the cat sat on the mat’,,, then in my head I saw the cat sitting on the mat with a speech bubble saying “Oppphs I peed on the mat”… get it I.P.MAT? It still makes me giggle. So never think it is a waste of time thinking of clever analogies or ways of remembering things. If you can make more than one connection in your brain to the memory of a fact then it is much easier to recall. Thats how all the amazing memory champions do it. They make every piece of information an object in a imaginary room in their head and then make a story connecting the objects.
