I was dead-set on being an English teacher or a writer. I *loved* writing in school.
But then I started studying psychology and realised that it suited me even better.
The best part is that now in my day-job I write loads about psychology! I’m doing a PhD at the moment which requires me to write a thesis of around 60,000 words, so it’s a good thing I don’t mind sitting in front of a desk and churning out words!
I used to want to be a medical doctor but i quickly realised i hated blood!! I then thought i wanted to be a clinical psychologist because i could still help people. After doing my degree, i discovered i loved doing research which is what lead me to do a doctorate and become a researcher.
I loved nature – the first job I was set on as a kid was an ornithologist (who studies birds!) and I loved animal care and nature. I think because my mum was a vet nurse and we farmed land in Scotland. In later stages of school I wanted to be a biologist and I was really interested in the human body and health – guess I didn’t end up too far away from that!
At different points in my life I’ve wanted to do different things. When I was doing my GCSEs I wanted to be a medical doctor. But when my A-Level showed that I might not measure up to that standard, I thought about several different options. In the end I decided on psychology because it sounded interesting. I imagined that I would become a clinical psychologist. But after studying political psychology in my final year, I decided I wanted to be a social/political psychologist. And that’s where I’ve ended up now!
