I suppose the most inspiring scientist for me was my year 10,11 and 13 chemistry teacher. She was awesome. She made me determined to study chemistry at university even though I didn’t know what to do next.

I don’t look up to any scientists because I don’t like the idea of “admiring” or “idolising” people. I think everyone is equal, even if we aren’t all equally good at science :P. If I admire something its a study or a theory or a text book of theirs rather than the person themselves.

I admire some of the scientists in the Chemistry department where I did my PhD… specifically there are a few (although not very many!) incredibly clever and interesting chemists working there, who are so brainy, and yet so humble. I admire how they have progressed through their academic careers without being unpleasant bosses, without becoming really arrogant and obsessed with self-importance.

      Hi Amy,
Sir Patrick Moore. He was amazing. Enthusiastic, brilliant, knowledgeable, communicative, a fantastic presenter and all ’round boffin. He was a true eccentric scientist the like of which we will never see again. If I could be even a scintilla the scientist (and gentleman) he was I would be over the moon! 🙂
