I’ve changed my mind a number of times, at A level I was going to do an IT course, but it took up 3 out of 4 slots in my timetable and I wanted to be able to do Chemistry and Physics as well, so in the end I dropped IT and did chemistry, maths, physics and history instead.

I did actually contact a university that offered PhDs studying fireworks, but at the time I contacted them they didn’t have any to offer, and I applied to do Nanomaterials instead. Having got a place on my course I thought it would be rude to accept my place and then potentially get another PhD and then have to drop the place I had been given.
