In the future I want to see better understanding between scientists and non scientists, especially people in government and policy who seem to see science as a persuasive tool rather than evaluating evidence. I want the public to suggest new ideas and not feel they are unable to if they aren’t a scientist themselves: this is one of the best ways to get ideas – from outside perspectives! Do any of you have new ideas or questions for science?
That everyone will be scientifically literate and see it as something essential to round off their education as a person rather than something that we have to learn because some government decided we had to. It may not be everyones cup of tea, and that’s fine – but to be able to appreciate how scientific study is done and be able to tell the difference between media hype and real science would be great.
more open access and sharing of research ideas – some scientists are too competitive – whereas working together and sharing ideas can further science much more quickly
I’d like to see the acceptance of man made climate change from the important people who make things like cars and dig up oil. I’d like to see all the people who found the Higgs Boson last year find some really clever things that can be done with the new found particle. I’d like to see fusion electricity generation mastered, not only to prevent fossil fuel usage, but to start replenishing the helium stocks so that important instruments such as MRI scanners in hospitals carry on running.
Hi Amy,
My hope for the future of science is YOU. You and other young people who have in interest in science who will be able to take over from us when we’re too old! You guys have access to the internet, hundreds of channels on the TV, iPads, Kindle and tonnes of other resources…you can learn so much more about the world if you want to than anyone ever has before you. It’s you guys that are the future of science…I hope you take the opportunity to make the absolute most of it!!
(Also, I really hope that one day scientists will be looked at with the same awe as seems to be given to film stars and people off TOWIE…:-()
