      Probably lasering plankton fossils to find out the chemistry of their skeletons! It’s an amazing technique, and we can find out so much about the climate in the past using concentrations of different chemical elements.

      Magnesium can tell us how warm the oceans were.
      Oxygen can tell us how much ice there was on land.
      Boron can tell us how acidic the oceans were.
