Climate change is also sometimes described as global warming. But its not just warming, really it describes our climate changing to become more extreme and unpredictable. In some areas it will be wetter, in some areas it will be colder. the planet is heating up and this will have a huge impact on us, nature and animals as well as our oceans.
Climate change is when the normal pattern of weather for a certain time and place undergoes a change to some some different weather. This could be for example, a long-term change to wetter weather in Scotland during the winter by the year 2050, or more summer droughts near London.
To make sure that these changes are not natural, we average out the differences we observe from one year to the next over 20 or more years.
I think Caroline and Chris have answered this pretty well! I’d like to add to Chris’ bit that although climate change can be natural, the current climate change is caused by humans. This means it isn’t a natural pattern!
