My first training was at university – studied there for 5 years doing astrophysics (which is all about stars and planets) after that I knew I wanted to do renewable energy so I retrained again and did a more difficult degree (PhD) in renewable energy… that was another 4 years so a total of 9 years!

Don’t worry though, most scientists only do about 4 or 5 years of training before going into work… I was just fussy and changed my mind a lot. And all people interested in science can call themselves “scientists”… no training required!
