        I decided to do a PhD because I really liked doing research and I liked the idea of concentrating on one big project for a long time. You don’t have to do a PhD to be a scientist though, there are lots of scientists working for companies, governments and other organisations that do not have a PhD – but to be a research scientist at a University you would normally study for a PhD first.
