Ooh great question ⛵ some oceans (like the ones near Spain or Florida) are warm because they are near the middle of the planet – this part of the Earth gets the most heat and light from the Sun (that’s why we like to go on holiday there!) – other oceans are cold, like the Arctic ocean because it doesn’t receive much sunlight ☀

As Cat said it’s all to do with how much heat from the Sun hits the Earth. Our planet is round so some parts don’t get as much sunlight – like at the poles. Around the middle at the Equator they get the most heat from the sun so it’s much hotter! the sea definitely isn’t very warm in Scarborough where I used to go with my family – brrrr!

Did you know the Earth isn’t a perfect sphere? It’s a little bit wider in the middle so it bulges out!
