      Hi guys,

Great question! We don’t float away because gravity from the Earth is strongest when we are at the surface. That’s why it’s quite hard to launch a rocket, the rocket has to blast through the gravitational pull of the Earth.

Check out this game where you have to try and launch your rocket into space: http://sciencenetlinks.com/interactives/gravity.html

I crashed my rocket a few times!

Hey Max! There is gravity in space – our planet goes round the Sun because of its gravity. On the Earth’s surface we feel the gravity from our planet much more strongly though so we don’t float off into space!

Did you know the gravity on Mars is about 38% of what it is on Earth? If you weighed 100 kilos on Earth you would only weight 38 kilos on Mars!
