Good question! I’ve always liked science at school but I had no idea what I wanted to do for a long, long time. When I chose my A levels when I was 16 I went for English, music, maths and chemistry – I wanted to keep my options open! Then I absolutely fell in love with chemistry and I had an amazing teacher so I decided that I wanted to be a scientist. So I guess when I was about 17! I kept doing what I enjoyed the most – which turned out to be science! 🙂
When I was really little I wanted to be a dentist, then I decided I was too squeamish for that…! For a while I wanted to be a forensic scientist to study crime scenes and try to solve crimes, but as I got older I realised that I was more interested in the environment so that’s why I became an environmental researcher.
….I didn’t realise that until I was about 23 though (!) so you have plenty of time to work out what you want to do 🙂
