Most scientist are like every human! Though, my days are always busy but that notwithstanding, I always make sure I have enough sleep. That way I can be very refreshed in the morning. I wake up around 5:30 am everyday.

      Hi Izzyd!

I’m really not a morning person – I don’t like getting up in the morning at all! I try to work 9-5 during the week so I usually try to get up around 7. Some mornings it’s very difficult, especially when it’s cold and rainy and I really don’t want to get out of bed!

Some scientists have to work funny hours – they might do night shifts or start later in the day. I used to have a job where I worked from 6 am until 3 in the afternoon and had to get up at 4 am to get to work – I didn’t like that at all!

There are lots of different jobs for scientists – there’ll always be a job out there that will suit you!

      Hi IzzyD,

Being a scientist is good because except for having meetings and giving lectures to students you can choose which times to work. So if you love getting up early in the morning you can start early and go home early, but if (like me) you struggle to get up early you can start a bit later and then stay later at the office/lab.

We often go away for conferences or sometimes I go to London for meetings – this can mean getting up very early indeed to catch the train!

I’m a morning person so I like to get up at 5.45am. I like having lie-ins at the weekend though!
