We all need to individually minimise our consumption… for example dont use single-use plastic, recycle when possible, take public transport, switch off lights when not in use etc. If everyone made this little changes everyday, we would really help reduce the pressure on our planet and reduce our emissions

Minimise emissions and excess consumption. Electrification of industrial processes and freight

We use computers to help industry and government make decisions. While individual people should try to minimise their impact, I think that industry and government will always have the biggest impact. 2 projects that I am working on are to help to move us to low-carbon energy supplies.
One project looks at how our houses in the UK can be more energy-efficient (insulation, not using electricity during peak times) and use low-carbon heating solutions (heat pumps, thermal energy storage) to reduce our climate footprint. We work with government to help decide on policy to make sure that families that cannot afford heating will also still be able to heat their homes with these new technologies, which can be expensive.
The second project is that we develop a software package (a computer programme) to help countries in South East Asia (Malaysia and Philippines) to decide what to do in their energy planning. The software finds the optimal solution to reach lower emissions by deciding what power plants should be retired, what to replace this with, and if other technologies (biogas, biomass) can be used instead of natural gas and coal.
At my University, almost all the chemical engineers are working to help reduce emissions and move us towards net-zero!

The simple answer is decreasing greenhouse gas emissions – to do this we need to decrease consumption of high emissions goods and services as well as decarbonise/carbon-capture un-replaceable processes. I think having a carbon footprint value on goods bought (like the nutritional info on chocolate bars!), increased carbon-taxes where the money goes towards carbon capture and helping those worst affected by climate change.

There are not only one answer. It should be a lot of solutions all put together to help the environment. But one of the main idea, which will really help reduce the global warming is to consume less, buy second hand clothes, eat local food, travel less etc

Fighting against global warming is a global effort among all nations.
However, if each one of us could implement the 3Rs of sustainability (reduce – reuse – recycle) in our everyday life that would have a great impact and would give a powerful message to younger generations.

I don’t think I have any novel ideas, I’ll leave that to the climate change experts…! Simply, I think we need to reduce the amount of single use or low resource things that we use (plastic, fuel etc) but more importantly, we need the big companies to do this as I think they are the main source of pollutants increasing global warming.
