some aspects of my job do present dangers/hazards, but we have very thorough risk assessment procedures that mean I am unlikely to be in any danger. We have a big focus on safety – if something feels dangerous, then it is better to stop and make it safe even if there is time pressure.
I do work with a few dangerous chemicals, but the company I work for is very dedicated to health and safety, so I know I am very very unlikely to get hurt.
No, scientists work safely to minimise the risks associated with handling chemicals by carrying out a risk assessment of the experiment they are planning to do before actually doing it
If untrained and the risks not assessed – it can be deadly (I’ve worked with fatal to inhale materials) but due to our training, protections-in-place and thorough risk assessment procedures, the activities in the job and very low risk.
Not really. There are some chemicals which might work with that might be more harmful than others but we have lots of rules around safety and lots of protective equipment.
I work with a few dangerous chemicals but as scientists we work very safely and make sure we are trained and know the health and safety procedures to keep us safe!
My job could be dangerous if the right safety things weren’t in place! I have to always think about what I’m doing, make sure I’m wearing the right safety equipment and take care to avoid hazards.
