The ozone layer contains ozone. It is a part of our atmosphere very high up in the sky in the startosphere and also lower down in another atmospheric layer known as the troposhere. Ozone is a molecule with 3 oxygens (O3).

Most of the ozone is in the stratosphere and it is good because it absorbs the sun’s ultraviolet light and protects us against cancer. The little ozone there is in the troposhere is not that good because it is bad for life. It is the build up of this ozone that is a concern to all people.
