• Question: What got you into loving motorbikes??

      Motorbikes are a lot more fun than driving cars and they are faster and easy to ride! I think everyone should ride motorbikes.

      I used to drive a car which was a red VW Polo 1 L but I was involved in a pretty serious car accident in 2007 and my poor Polo was smashed to bits. I woke up in a hospital bed with a needle in my arm, wires attached to my chest and ankle, and no idea how I had got there. I suffered a pretty bad head injury and I have permanent damage to the cerebral cortex of my brain. This is where your short term memory is stored and why I have problems remembering things. Luckily facts are stored in a different part of your brain which is why I can still do my job! I get through the day by writing lists of things I need to do, and I live out of my diary.

      Anyway, i’m getting off topic….

      After that I built up a big fear of driving. I think this was caused by the accident being entirely somebody else’s fault and now I’m scared that I can’t predict what other drivers are going to do. And that’s really how I got into motorbiking. I feel a lot safer on a bike than in the car, and it’s fun which takes the fear away. You are well protected with all your safety gear and you are a lot smaller so you can fit into small gaps in the traffic, and you have so much acceleration that you can kind of get yourself out of trouble easier – like if a car suddenly tries to pull out in front of you, you can just accelerate round them! I can now bring myself to drive a car if it’s essential, but otherwise I avoid it at all costs!

      I also like the bike because you do a lot of the servicing yourself, which involves pottering about with oily tools at the weekend and getting a but grimy which is always fun!

      Everyone jokes about me being a hardcore motorcycling chick at work because I am really small and nice and not really ‘hardcore’ at all lol!

      I do think everyone should ride motorcycles. There would be less traffic and less pollution because they use a lot less fuel!
