I’m so old I was the last year of O levels but the subjects will be the same. I took Maths, English literature and English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, then finished off with Computer studies, Commerce (business studies) and German. For my A levels I took Biology, Chemistry and Physics and found Physics very hard because I didn’t take maths as well.

Hmm… they weren’t called GCSE’s when I was a lad and did mine. My certificate subjects were: Maths, Science, History, English, Geography, Latin and Music. Of these the only ones that were essential to my profession were Science and Maths, however English is also extremely important. Geography and Latin helped a little bit. Music wasn’t relevant at all (but at my school you had to do at least one arts subject… which I didn’t like at all!)

I did ten GCSEs (in 1997!): Double Science, Mathematics, English Literature, English Language, History, Geography, Business Studies, French and PE.

I then did three A-levels (1999): Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
