They are objects that are orbiting or are _designed_ to orbit the earth, that are created by humans.

(We call a satellite that it still on the ground in the factory a “satellite”, even if it hasn’t been launched yet.)

Artificial satellites are man made objects that are designed to orbit around planets and moons (not only the Earth, there are satellites orbitting our moon, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn I believe).

They can be things like, space probes, space stations, communication, weather and navigation satellies.

The first ever satellite was Sputnik 1, launched by the soviet union in 1957, into the earth’s atmosphere. I’m going to call my next chicken Sputnik because I think that’s an awesome name!

Artificial satellites are man-made objects that orbit the Earth, such as communications/military satellites…or space debris/junk that has been left behind!
