Yeah if I win, all the money will be spent on giving presentations and workshops in secondary schools about cancer research. Every time I do a workshop, the materials get used up. I borrow as much as I can from other scientists in my department and Cancer Research UK give me balloons and freebies to give to the kids. But the rest of the materials I pay for myself, so I try to make experiments using household things but that kind of limits the type of science I can do. So the extra money would go a long way to making my workshop more fun for students and I’d be able to do it in a lot more schools as well.
I’m also thinking about extending the workshop so that I can do it for different classes. At the moment it is designed for year 10 but I want to make different versions so that I can do it for all year groups.
I also want to make the workshop into a downloadable resource for teachers so that they can run it in their own classrooms without my help, so that it can be done right across the country!
