The moon orbits the sun once a year. The earth and moon are locked together. There may be times when the moon (which of course is orbiting the earth) will reach the exact end of its orbit around the sun a little ahead of earth, and other times when it might be behind. But in the long run, the earth takes the moon along with it, and there is no escaping that, at least for the next 2 or 3 billion years.
