Hi chimp123
The first step towards a cure for dementia is to develop effective treatments – they may not stop or reverse the condition but they do at least give temporary respite and relief.
A great deal of research is aimed at development of better treatments that could delay, cure or even prevent dementia. All new treatments pass through rigorous clinical trials before they can be licensed for use.
My own opinion is that yes, we will find more effective dementia treatments….a cure could take longer however.
There is a lot of research going in to dementia at the moment, as with an ageing population it’s becoming more common, but it’s a difficult disease to treat and cure. As of yet we don’t know of any drugs that effectively create neuroregeneration, which is what we would need to reverse the effects and cure it. In the future though, once we understand the brain and dementia better, I do believe we will find a way to treat it more effectively .
