Well directioner1994, I expect you have heard the myth that we only use 10% of our brain – I am going to tell you that we do use all of our brain!

If we look at brain imaging scans we can see that almost all regions of the brain are active during routine tasks such as talking, walking, and listening to music.

If the 10 percent myth was true, then people who suffer brain damage would probably not notice any real effect. Actually, there isn’t a single area of the brain that can be damaged without consequence.

Our brains would not have evolved to the size they are if we were only using a small part of them. Also our brain uses about 20% of the body’s energy – from an evolution point of view there is no sense in such a small amount of brain using so much energy.

Detailed brain mapping research has yet to find any area of the brain that does not have a function.

So in short we do use all of our brain!

Like Angela said, we do use all our brain! There are some areas in the brain that we’re not 100% sure about in terms of what they do and sometimes people with brain damage can recover completely , but this is more to do with the brain’s ability to create new connections than because we’re not using all of it.
