I don’t think my research is more important than any other research, it is just different. It is important however that young people get excited by science and want to work in the science industry, irrespective of the actual discipline. My cause is to show young people that being a scientist is not just about working in a laboratory, it is about showing young people that getting qualifications in science can open up doors into a multitude of areas, from medicine to food science and astronomy to animal husbandry.
I don’t believe my research is superior to others, but I do believe it’s very useful.
The website I work on, Future Morph (http://www.futuremorph.org/ – have a look to find out even more!) gives advice on careers from science and maths – especially ones you wouldn’t usually think need science! I think it’s really important to show students how useful studying science and maths is, because they are involved in so many jobs! So I think you should support my cause to get the message spread even further – a lot of students are turned off science and maths because they think its hard or irrelevant when in fact they’re not! And by spreading this message we can get more people in to science and maths, which means more people to work solving disease, designing new clothes, creating new technology and more!
