If nothing is done to absorb such a shock…

hmm… (since modern farming is not possible without fossil fuels, mined fertilisers. And humans rely on all manner of other things they take for granted that are essential for their survival) You would have a world population with food and water requirements greater than the supply available.

… and many, if not all, would object to starving/dehydrating to death, I expect widespread conflict between groups keen to secure what remains of the resources available.

… perhaps we should try to do something to soften such obviously predictable shocks!

      Hi Emily and Sophie
I suppose one could hope that this will never actually happen. I don’t think all the resources will disappear but they may change (ie water becomes polluted) so that they are no longer useful to us. Fossil fuels and animals could definitely disappear so we need to be careful about this. My fear is that it would signal the end of life on earth.
