A sensible level of funding for blue-sky research (research without a particular goal or problem in mind) and making best use of what is discovered. Specifically less reliance on the idea that it is possible to predict what the next big areas are going to be and allocating the majority of resources to them. Why would anyone think that its easy to predict such things?!

After all, “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” – from a well known German/Swiss patent clerk

      Hi Missy

I agree with Ian that we really don’t know, but I would imagine that people will be living longer and so more illnesses will become evident so research into disease and aging will be important.
