I enjoyed my field of science more because I could relate it to real things – so I enjoyed chemistry but it can be quite abstract, whereas Pharmacology related chemistry specifically to drugs and the human body. They’re all enjoyable in their own ways though, and there is a lot of crossover in scientific fields these days, which I really like.

      Hi Thomas Dingle
I worked in science research when I left university and made glues and fertilizers. I really enjoyed it at the time, but was then given an opportunity to do some analytical chemistry which involved not only working at a bench in a lab, but using some really fabulous machines which did experiments almost automatically – to be allowed to use machines costing hundreds of thousands of pounds was a great honour and again I liked it. I almost fell into Regulatory Affairs when I was asked to help out in the Regulatory Affairs department for a month. This is an office based job still heavily dependant on science but not on pure chemistry – there are aspects of biology, toxicology, medicine, communications, strategic thinking and pharmacology. The important thing is that I still feel like I am learning and making a difference. I think all types of research and science jobs can be totally engrossing and all are incredibly useful….I really enjoy what I do right now, but because there is so much flexibility in science, I might do something different later in my career.
