When you design an experiment you should always take as many steps as you can to make sure the data is accurate. This can be done by doing things like calibrating equipment, and running controls in the experiment. The best way to make sure your data is accurate is to repeat the experiment several times and check the data each time, or run teh same experiment several times at once to produce a mean. If they are very similar or even better the same you can be pretty sure your data is accurate. Only when you are happy with the accuracy of the data should you draw your conclusions.
