The immune system is a very important one, and it is formed by many different cell types (all of them are very important!). These cells are the ones patrolling around our body to make sure that everything is going fine. If they find something alarming, like a cancer cell or a bacteria messing around, they basically start yelling so that more immune cells come to the place of the incident. They can kill bacteria, parasites and infected or cancerous cells. They put on quite a fight! so after dealing with them, immune cells need to help clean up and heal the tissues. Without immune cells we would be in a very bad position since all the virus and bacteria would be free to infect us. If you make me choose a type of immune cells I would say the innate cells are the most important ones: they are the first line of defense, the ones killing most of the bacteria, virus etc. Only when something is tricky the other (adaptive) immune cells jump in.
