Well, my Grandpa passed away from prostate cancer when I was younger and I know a number of other people who have been diagnosed with cancer. I really didnt like how little we knew about why people get cancer and how we can treat it, I thought, well rather than waiting around for other people to learn, I can find it out myself! In reality, this is hard than I first thought, as its a really complex disease but the more I study it, the better chance we have of treating it! Cells are really important to help find out more about cancer. I work with cells from lots of different patient’s cancers, so we can see how they grow, spread e.t.c. in a lab rather than in a body! This also means that I dont have to use animals in my research which I am pleased about.
