Most women do not ovulate after going through the menopause at age around 50. This means the ovaries stop releasing egg cells into the oviduct, so they cannot get pregnant. However, sometimes and very rarely, ovulation does continue. Every so often there is news of an older mum in the news! I think 59 is the record for natural conception in the UK.
Men usually continue to produce sperm throughout their lives, so the only real way to avoid getting pregnant is to use appropriate contraception!

Yeah as Paul says, its all to do with when women release eggs. When women first start having periods, that is generally first sign that they can get pregnant because periods are caused by the shedding of uterus lining if an egg isnt fertilised by a sperm. Menopause is when the finite number of eggs is used up so you cannot get pregnant then either.
