A teacher of mine when I was 11. He was awesome. Pretty much everyone’s favourite teacher and I thought that I wanted to be like him. Even before then, I’d liked science so I suppose he just helped me make up my mind.
I had good teachers at school too and when I came to Uni and found out all the interesting things scientists do I wanted to keep learning and become a scientist myself!
I have always loved biology, so I found it really easy to look for a career in science. But my biggest inspiration is actually my little sister, she has Crohn’s disease, which is a disease of her immune system. She was quite sick when she was younger, and there were some treatments that really helped her. These treatments changed her quality of life. It made me realise that science was so important for making the small discoveries that can lead to cures for real people, and this can really change their life. This inspires me to be a scientist, and to do the best that I can.
A lot of things inspired me to go into science. But the main reason was because I was really interested in science. I had some great teachers at school who taught us that everyone can and should study science, so that really helped.
Now that I’m a bit older, knowing that my research could help tackle cancer in the future is what gets me up in the morning!
