Probably when I accidently had a fire in my fumehood :/ Noone got hurt and it was pretty small but everyone got evacuated out of the department and the fire brigade had to come and put it out. But learnt just how flammable posassium is-especially when it’s in a pot of flammable liquid…so it’s not all bad.

When I was growing up I always thought a ham was a type of bird ? ? ? I find it really hilarious now but one day I asked my dad what a ham looked like (I think I was 13) and my dad did nothing but tease me after it since obviously ham comes from a pig! I still don’t know why I thought it was a bird and why I thought it for so long ? ? my dad still teases me about it in front of people. So embarassing!!!
People always expect you to be clever as a scientist but I still always have silly moments like this where I’m a bit silly and I amaze myself at how I’ve got this far some times.

In science I feel like an idiot most weeks. Frequently after reading a top level paper, but also after speaking to my supervisors.

So many decisions throughout my PhD that could be best described as ” a good idea at the time”, to which any person is liable to say “in what universe?!”

Mistakes happen all the time, I just try not to make the same one twice.
