It’s more books for me but it has to be Harry Potter without a doubt. The Prisoner of Azkaban if I had to choose one.

I grew up with these books and bought them when they all first came out. They are magical and I could never wait for the next one. I wish I could have gone to Hogwarts and studied potions!

Closely followed by 2001 a Space Odyssey

Not that I only read books with years in the title

I like the predictions of the future made in the past and the way lessons from the time written have relevance today (although I read them both in 1994 – half way between the two dates of the titles)

I really love Alan Bennet he writes a lot of very funny books. He has one great book called The Uncommon Reader which is about the Queen developing a love of reading novels and how it prevents her from doing her work properly. I am terrible when I get reading and get so absorbed I can totally relate.

I will confess to a longstanding love of Arthur C Clarke – though I preferred Rama to 2001.

But my favourite book – can I take a series? Please?? Has to be the Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry. Started from zombies, and has wandered through superscientist villains who create all kinds of viruses and whatnot, and just keeps on going. I am very partial to a zombie apocalypse at the best of times, but to have scientific zombies rather than magical ones was a particularly good point – Maberry does his research, he really does.
